Darma is a smart cushion for making your smart ass smarter

Darma-grey background

Move over wearables, Darma wants “sittables” to be the new trend as it prepares to launch its smart cushion for your office chair. The device monitors your sitting position, heartbeat, respiration and stress level. Darma, a graduate of the Haxlr8r hardware accelerator, is raising money on Kickstarter with plans to begin shipping the device by June 2015. Backers can get a cushion for as low as $99, down from the expected retail price of $199. CEO Junhao Hu’s goal is to go beyond mere data and provide users with guidance on how to improve their sitting. By taking the non-wearable...

Microsoft announces Windows 10, promises ‘One product family. One platform. One store.’

LinkedIn checks its Pulse with refreshed reading experience on desktop and mobile

LinkedIn has been evolving as a publishing platform in recent years, so when it weighed in with an offer to acquire Pulse last year, this merely served to confirm its intentions to move far beyond that of being a simple social network for business. Pulse was always a fantastic news aggregation service, taking your favorite news feeds and websites and transforming them into an interactive mosaic. A little like Flipboard. Today, ‘LinkedIn Pulse’ represents a major part of LinkedIn’s distribution mechanism, looking at what’s being written by people and then sorting them into channels for easy reading. Nokia’s offline maps for Android: We go hands-on

Since then, Nokia has been continuing to flex its mapping muscles following its new-found freedom from the smartphone bustle, teasing a refresh of the Web-based version of HERE, while also revealing it will be used on Tizen smartphones and wearables. EBay has announced that it’s to spin out PayPal as a separate publicly traded company in 2015. This marks a significant shift in the online payments space, and basically frees PayPal from its master’s shackles to capitalize on its own popularity...

Dear Rupert: Google responds to News Corp’s criticisms point-by-point in ongoing EU antitrust case

Google Opens New Berlin Office

Google has responded to an open letter, written by News Corp for the European Commission, which criticises the company and claims its search engine is negatively impacting news organisations. In the original letter, News Corp chief executive Robert Thomson said Google was changing the way links are ranked and shown in its search results, which would “inevitably maximise income for Google” and “punish” small companies. Thomson argued this, alongside its handling of Android, was evidence Google now “exploit(s) its dominant market position to stifle competition.” Today, Google responded with a ‘Dear Rupert’ blog post: “With the Internet, people enjoy greater...
