Apple has acquired high-precision GPS firm Coherent Navigation

Apple’s mapping service may not quite have the popularity of Google’s offering, but the company is constantly working to improve it. The New York Times today confirmed that Apple has acquired Coherent Navigation, a firm specializing in high accuracy GPS devices and software. Meanwhile, Coherent Navigation’s webpage is now offline, and name servers for the domain now point to Apple’s servers. According to MacRumors, some of Coherent Navigation’s employees started working at Apple as early as January.
