GitHub open-sources all of its Atom text editor

Just weeks after kicking off the private beta for its Atom programming text editor, GitHub has announced that it is making the entire project open source and available to all. The GitHub team started working on Atom six years ago, with active development taking place for more than 2.5 years. The goal was to make a text editor that they would use for the rest of their lives. Atom is currently available for OS X, but the company is also working on Linux and Windows versions.
