Sony confirms the PS4 will have voice-recognition support via the PlayStation Camera

Back in May, we reported on a new job opening at Sony that suggested it was developing speech-recognition support for its PlayStation hardware.

Now, it seems that Eurogamer has received official confirmation that the soon-to-launch PS4 will indeed support voice-recognition, enabled through the new PlayStation Camera.

The camera’s capabilities were revealed at the recent GameStop Expo in Las Vegas, and subsequent to this Sony clarified with Eurogamer: “We can confirm that PS Camera does allow voice recognition. We will share more details on this shortly.”

Of course, this means you will have to buy the camera in addition to the console, but it brings it in line with the Xbox One, which includes voice control options that allow you to switch the console on and carry out some of its operations without lifting a finger.

The full extent of the PS4′s voice-recognition tech is still unknown.
